Vernon D. "Sonny" Boots

April 28, 1944 — January 19, 2025

Campbellsville

Vernon D. “Sonny” Boots, son of the late Ralph D. Boots and Melba Hall Boots, passed away on January 19, 2025 at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was born on April 28, 1944 in Warsaw, Kentucky.

Vernon was a retired Marine, serving from 1967-1988. He was a Vietnam veteram. After retiring from the Marine Corp, Vernon began his career as a Baptist minister. He pastored churches in Arizona and Nevada, retiring from the South Valley Baptist Church in Pahrump, Nevada in 2014. After leaving Pahrump, Vernon returned to Campbellsville, Kentucky.

On May 1, 1971, Vernon united in marriage to the love of his life, Martha Sue Cornett Boots.

In addition to his wife, Martha Sue Boots, Vernon is survived by four children: Michael W. Boots (Sheila) of Lebanon, Kentucky, Robert Boots (Janet) of Hutchinson, Kansas, Jozette Sayegh (Mo) of Pilot Point, Texas and Jamilyn Boots of Richmond, Kentucky. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as his loving sisters: Carolyn Rodgers of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Brenda Franklin of Lexington, Kentucky as well as several nieces and nephews.

Vernon loved the Lord, his family and his country with all of his heart. He was a jack of all trades, working as a mechanic and a truck driver prior to joining the Marines. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it, right up until his final illness. After suffering a stroke in 2022, he and Martha moved to Kansas but his heart was always in Kentucky. His soul is in Heaven but his earthly body is now at rest in the place he loved more than anywhere.
