John W. Stokes of Campbellsville, son of the late John William Stokes Sr. and Ezma Mitchell Stokes was born October 13, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. He died at 8:15 A.M., Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in Campbellsville. Age: 86
He served his country honorably in the United States Army.
John was a retired master electrician. He was an avid horseman and member of the Hill and Valley Saddle Club. John also enjoyed boating and fishing and was a member of RizpahTemple Shriners.
He united in marriage to Doris Jean (D.J.) Davis Crabtree February 14, 1993.
Besides his wife, D.J. Stokes he is survived by five step-children: Gene Crabtree and wife, Sue, Sharon Force and husband, Carlos. Donna Grammer, and Lisa Benningfield and husband, Barry of Campbellsville and David Crabtree and wife, Phyllis of Elizabethtown; ten step-grandchildren: J.P. Crabtree and wife, Annette, Amy Hisle, Chris Force and wife, Huki, Matt Force, Amanda Spaw and husband, Ricky, Thomas Grammer, Nick Benningfield, Katie Watson and husband, Trent, Megan Walls and husband, Tanner, and David Crabtree Jr.; several step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Knott of Owensboro and two nieces and many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by one daughter, Julia Stokes.
