Elizabeth Nolan Hays

April 22, 1947 — October 12, 2020

Elizabeth Nolan Hays passed away at home on October 12. Liz lived a big and beautiful life. She was from Springfield, daughter of Timothy and Mary Nolan. She graduated top of her class and went to University of Kentucky where she met the love of her life, Phil. Together they eventually settled in Campbellsville and raised their two children, Jessica and Philip. To those who love her, Liz was perfect. She laughed well and often. As a mother and wife she was full of love, patience, and tenderness. She also excelled at being a grandmother to her five grandsons. She held them, read to them, laughed at all of their jokes, framed their drawings, and kept her house stocked with all of their favorite treats. She will always be cherished by this family that she loved so well. A committed and caring teacher, Liz delighted in the hundreds of elementary students she taught over 27 years. She was a devout Catholic. She was an accomplished bridge player, strategic in ways that her family doesn’t fully understand, though some of her friends might. She added sparkle to everything. She loved antiques because she loved the humanity that she saw in them; she loved to learn about people and what they could do. She told great stories about little things that she saw the humor or sweetness in. Her specialties were pecan pie and corn pudding and she loved to keep people warm. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Phil, her daughter Jessica Hays Lucas (Shawn), her son Philip Hays (Leigh), and her grandchildren Jackson, Eli, Grant, Jonah, and Harrison, along with her four brothers and sisters--Mary Neises (Duane), Peg McGinley, Tim Nolan, and Jim Nolan (Candace Timpte)--and a host of nieces and nephews. The family won’t be having a public gathering because of the pandemic. They ask that you remember Liz by sharing your stories with the family. Expressions of sympathy can be made by contributing to the Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice and may be made at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.
