Brigadier General Noah Edward Loy

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on the morning of December 29, 2020, Noah Edward Loy past away, at the age of 82, just one day after his 64th wedding anniversary. Noah Edward Loy was born in Fordsville, Ky, to Kavanaugh A. and Susan M. Loy on December 23, 1938. He graduated from Campbellsville High School, Ky, in 1956, where he would also meet his life long partner, Joan Sharon Caulk. “Edward” graduated from the University of Kentucky on May 30, 1960 and entered pilot training in the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant on June 24, 1960. General Loy’s career included serving two tours in Vietnam (1967 and 1973). As a combat pilot, he amassed 239 missions, with more than 500 combat hours over Laos, Cambodia, North and South Vietnam. He spent much of his career overseas in England and Germany as part of the NATO command, serving most notably as a Squadron Operations Officer, Squadron Commander, Base Commander, Vice Wing and eventually Wing Commander. General Loy would finish his career serving essential roles at the Pentagon (Washington D.C.). After completing 30 years of distinguished service he retired as a Brigadier General on September 1, 1990. General Loy was a command pilot with over 4800 flying hours in fighter and training aircraft with military decorations that would include: the Distinguish Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with fifteen Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star. He also received the Exceptional Civilian Service Medal for service with the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. General Loy and his wife Joan retired to Campbellsville, Ky in 1990. He would spend another 18 years consulting for various aerospace companies and associations. He also donated time serving the local community and his church. Edward is survived by his wife, Joan, and two sons, Michael and David, and their families which includes, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters Susan Loy Freudenthal of West Palm Beach and Linda Loy Aaron of St. Petersburg, Florida. Uncle Ed loved and admired his many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, too many to name.
