Arlene “Granny” Smith, daughter of the late Joe & Bernice Smith, was born on November 19, 1948, in Campbellsville, KY.
She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at age 76.
Arlene professed faith in Christ and was a devoted Christian and member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Arlene united in marriage with Larry Smith on September 28, 1984. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2010.
Throughout life Arlene worked in a few different fields and was always a dedicated employee and hard worker. She started her career as a Cosmetologist and later retired from factory work. Trials came as she was diagnosed with cancer twice but instead of letting it get her down she persevered, fought, never gave up, and overcame to live a fulfilling life. Her strength was admirable. When her husband Larry passed, she couldn’t sit still so she went to work at JC Penney where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the public. In 2015 she started employment at Taylor Regional Hospital in ER registration. There she found her people and an abundance of joy and reward in her work. When she transferred to work in the lab she was already known as Granny to some, but soon became a friend and Granny to many. Working at TRH, she touched many hearts and did as any grandma would- she gave advice, made sure you ate, was there to lean on, and most importantly shared her love of Jesus. Her co workers quickly became her chosen family, including a special friend, Marsha Allen who she worked with for years and loved dearly. Granny treasured those relationships and they truly kept her going. At the center of her life was her faith and she wanted nothing more than to be with Jesus someday.
Granny liked to spend her time surrounded by family. She was always down to cook a meal and play some cards. Her other hobbies included going to church, gardening, crocheting, canning vegetables, cooking/baking, and teaching those skills to her future generations. In her home, the news was always on as she was a Fox News Enthusiast. Granny had the greenest thumb and spent many days working sun up to sun down in the garden. She was always the life of the party and her sassy and spunky self filled any room with joy and laughter as she specialized in breath taking belly laughs. She created a loving home for her family where everyone knew they were always welcome.
She is survived by one daughter- Suzanne Wilson (Daren), one son- Marvin McCubbin Jr,. both of Campbellsville, and one bonus daughter, Kim Skaggs (Joe) of Lebanon. Bonus sons: Greg Smith (Marti), Todd Smith, and Shane Smith (Susan) of North Carolina. Three grandchildren: Chasity Taylor (James), Destiny Wilson, and Marissa McCubbin. Bonus grandchildren: Sean Smith (Stephanie), Brooke Mize (Justin), Corey Smith, Samantha Smith, Olivia Lipe, Hannah Smith, Libby Wilburn (Caden), Brayden Smith, Levi Smith, Mason Smith, Jake Smith, and Brody Smith. One great granddaughter, Kendall Wilson, and several other bonus great grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Baldwin and husband, Randall, and Karen Karnes of Campbellsville.
She was preceded in death by one bonus son, Steve Smith.
