Rev. Carlis Compton of Campbellsville, son of the late Ernest Compton and Ora Pearl Tucker Compton, was born March 28, 1932 in Green County, Kentucky. He died at 9:30 P.M., Monday, August 7, 2017 in Campbellsville. Age: 85 He professed faith in Christ early in life, accepting God’s call to ministry in 1953 and was ordained at Friendship Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. During his sixty-four years of full-time ministry, he has served at the following churches: Coral Ridge in Louisville, Kentucky; Oak Grove, Liberty, Macedonia, Fry, Trammell Creek, South Greensburg and Green Hill, all in Green County, Kentucky; Munfordville in Hart County, Kentucky; Mt. Tabor in Larue County, Kentucky; Zion, Pleasant Hill and Liberty in Taylor County, Kentucky. In addition to pastoring, he served as President of the Green and Larue County Ministerial Associations, along with various other associational positions, including moderator, executive board member, director of stewardship and youth and chairman of evangelism. Bro. Compton united in marriage to Marie Gentry September 6, 1950. Besides his wife, Marie Compton of Campbellsville, he is survived by two daughters: Sandy Judd and husband, Jim of Henderson, Kentucky and Debbie Underwood and husband, Chuck of Campbellsville; three grandchildren: Christy Baxter and husband, Jeremy of Henderson, Kentucky, Nick Underwood and companion, Megan Milby of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Emily Mushlock and husband, Josh of Darmstadt, Indiana; eleven great-grandchildren: Blake Middleton, Lyric Underwood, Kaleb Underwood, Bailee Willis and Brystol Underwood of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Judson Baxter and Natalie Baxter of Henderson, Kentucky, Preston Mushlock, Evie Mushlock, Mia Mushlock and Case Mushlock of Darmstadt, Indiana; two brothers: Adolphus “Dot” Compton and wife, Barbara of Louisville, Kentucky and Duard Compton and wife, Esther of Greensburg, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law: Betty Compton and Linda Slayton of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
