Mildred Woodruff Hamilton

Mildred Woodruff Hamilton of Campbellsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 4, 2017. She was 97 years old. Mildred, better known as Mama Ham or Blessed, (as her husband, L. M., always called her), was born in Georgetown, Kentucky on June 14, 1919. She met her beloved husband of 53 years at Gano Baptist Chapel on January 31, 1937 and they were united in marriage on July 10, 1938. She is survived by her children, Suetta Williamson, Jerry Hamilton, Jane Hamilton and Joy Hale (Curtis); seven grandchildren: Etta Jacoby Tackett (Bruce), Millie Jacoby Wrobleski (Jim Smith), Angela Leonard (John), Allyson Bagwell (Bo), Mindi Goff, Mackenzie Brown Smith (Chris) and Jordan Brown; eight great-grandchildren: Brandon Tackett, Casey Tackett, Trevor Wrobleski, Nickolas Wrobleski, Andrew Dick, Connor Burton, Braxton Smith and Weston Smith; and one great-great-grandson, Travis Dick. Her husband, L. M. Hamilton, a professor at Campbellsville University, preceded her in death in 1991. She was the daughter of Richard Woodruff and Susie Hall Woodruff and was also preceded in death by her sister, Christine Crowe and brother, Irville Woodruff. Growing up in Georgetown, Millie was active in school. She played the guitar and clarinet, sang, danced, tap danced, was a cheerleader and played sports. And she was very involved in her church, which continued throughout her life. She was a devout Christian who loved and served the Lord faithfully. She had another love, which was obvious to everyone who knew her. She loved the Kentucky Wildcats. She never missed a basketball game on TV. She was often dressed in Wildcat blue, from her favorite UK necklace to her UK tennis shoes. One of her most prized possessions was a signed photograph from Coach Calipari. She was a wonderful mother. Her children were raised in a safe, warm and loving home. She was respected for her character, high standards and values, and was a role model to her family. Her grandchildren loved their Mama Ham. She enjoyed sharing her stores with them, with her quick wit and humor. “Her children rise up and call her “Blessed.” L. M. and Mildred served in numerous churches throughout their years together, where they formed lifetime friendships with their church and college families. Mildred was an active member of Campbellsville Baptist Church until she moved to Georgetown in 2014 to live with her daughter, Suetta, who loved, protected and cared for her every day. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice, the staff at Georgetown Hospital and our friends for their care and support over the past few weeks. Services will be held at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, Kentucky, on May 8, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., with visitation preceding from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the L. M. Hamilton Scholarship Fund at Campbellsville University and may be made at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.
