Margaret Wood Smith

Margaret Wood Smith of Lexington, formerly of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Annie Smith Wood and Samuel Chandler Wood and stepmother, Tommie Wood Marshall, was born November 29, 1917, in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 1:24 A.M., Friday, November 11, 2016 in Lexington. Age: 98 She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church for eighty-three precious years where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Margaret was a graduate of Valdosta State College. She was a retired Administrative Assistant with the Taylor County School System. During the years of 1942 -1945 in the World War II town of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Margaret was unknowingly working on a secret project, which was later known as the Atomic Bomb. In 2013 a book was published about “The Girls of Atomic City”. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Taylor County Historical Society. Because of her record keeping and ability to identify people and places in old photographs, she was instrumental in the documentation of Taylor County history. Margaret united in marriage to G. Dennis Smith December 2, 1941 who preceded her in death on July 31, 2001. She is survived by two sons and one step-daughter: Chandler Smith and wife, Cathy of Lexington, George Smith and wife, Gail of Lexington, Dr. Patricia Barton of Williamsburg, Virginia; five grandsons and one granddaughter: Adam Smith and wife, Stephanie of Anna, Texas, Cody Smith and wife, Lauren of Lexington, Christopher Smith and wife, Kim of Lexington, Tyler Smith and wife, Courtney of West Hartford, Connecticut, Carson Smith and wife, Christy of Lexington, Laura Gail Smith of Washington, D.C.; two step-grandchildren: Scott Barton and wife, Mary Ellen of Richmond, Virginia, Mike Barton and wife, Jennifer of Basking Ridge, New Jersey; seven great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. ___________________ VISITATION: After 1:00P.M., Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home FUNERAL SERVICE: 3:00 P.M., Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Rev.
