Lester D. Story of Campbellsville, son of the late Clyde Story and Florence Fraim Story, was born March 30, 1924 in Jasper County, Indiana. He died at 7:00 A.M., Monday, March 21, 2016 in Campbellsville. Age: 91
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Stewart’s Creek Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, having served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal with 5 Silver Stars, American Defense Service Medal, American Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Star, Victory Medal World War II, North Pacific Operations, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Palm and 1 Star and the Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Lester retired from the United States Marine Corp after thirty years of service as a Gunnery Sergeant.
He was a member of the Sudan Temple Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America, Pittman Masonic Lodge #124 F & AM and a member of the Shriners. He was also a life-long member of the Disabled American Veterans, Taylor County Chapter #70.
He united in marriage to Martha E. Dustin July 8, 1944. She preceded him in death March 6, 2000.
He is survived by one son and one daughter: Thomas D. Story of Los Cruces, New Mexico and Anne Miller and husband, Lyle of Jacksonville, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Dustin Miller and significant other, Tracy Crawford of Lebanon, Caleb Story and wife, Julie of Los Cruces, New Mexico, Jacob Story of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Leigh Miller of Jackson, Mississippi; five great-grandchildren: Dustin Miller, II and Gavin Miller of Lebanon, Sierra Miller, Kody Miller and Jordan Miller of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister, Mary Mae Moore and husband, Royal of Conroe, Texas as well as many other relatives and friends.
