Arless Russell Akin of Campbellsville, son of the late Robert Ellis Akin and Carrie Bale Akin, was born in Green County, Kentucky, May 11, 1923. He died at 5:56 A.M., Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Campbellsville. Age: 90He professed faith in Christ and is a member of the Southside Christian Church.He was a welder and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 183 in Lexington for some sixty years, a Taylor County Sheriff from 1974-1977 and a lifelong farmer and breeder of Hereford cattle and a member of the American Hereford Association.He was on the first basketball team and the first baseball team at Taylor County High School. He was an avid amateur boxer and great all-around athlete.He was a member of the Pitman Masonic Lodge #124 F & AM.He united in marriage to Jane Coleman Allender February 14, 1958. She preceded him in death February 24, 2003.He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Robert Akin and wife, Jewell of Greensburg, Melissa Mallard and husband, Elliott of Ocala, Florida, Merry Beth Gold and husband, Brad of Greenville, North Carolina and Rocky Akin and wife, Lori of Campbellsville; ten grandchildren: Niki Akin and Andrew Akin of Greensburg, Matthew Mallard, Jared Mallard and Elliott Mallard, II of Ocala, Florida, Carrie Gold, Evan Gold and Mason Gold of Greenville, North Carolina, Rachael Dobson and Zachary Akin of Campbellsville; three great-grandchildren: Brianna Dobson, Kaine Mallard and Grayson Mallard; two nieces: Connie Clem and husband, Fred of Elizabethtown and Donna Smith and husband, Dr. Roger Smith of Columbia and many other relatives and friends.He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Geneva Moss September 10, 2012 and Virginia Caulk August 11, 2013.
